Charity lunch serves $100,000 in grants

More than 600 people from the South West, Perth and interstate were wined and dined on Sunday at the annual Chefs’ Long Table Charity Lunch fundraiser event.

Seating and feeding 620 guests, Bunbury local and event founder Leonie Kershaw said she was thrilled with the success of this year’s lunch.

“We committed to giving away $100,000 to 11 charities this year and we were able to reach that amount,” she said.

“Since starting this event in 2004 with just $100 we have raised more than $1.4 million and donated that money to 99 charities across Western Australia.

“I am very proud of the city I live in, the people and volunteers are why this event is so successful.”

A total of 18 chefs from around the South West helped feed and entertain the guests that flocked from all over Australia.

“We have had people from over east join us every year for the past eight years and we have the pleasure of feeding them with good, local food,” she said.

“It is a charity event and my committee, past and present, as well as the amazing and supportive sponsors, make this show go on each year.”
