Farm scene and orchid captured in local youths’ mesmerising murals

Twelve talented youths from the Shire of Cuballing have painted some mesmerising murals to capture the beauty of life in Cuballing.

The murals, located near the Cuballing Skate Park, were completed earlier this month as part of WA Youth Week.

Participants aged between six and 15 were asked to talk among each other about what Cuballing meant to them and paint a mural that suited their vision.

The group ultimately settled on an abstract orchid mural and a farming scene.

This project was funded by the Department of Communities and organised by the council. Shire chief executive Gary Sherry said the project was an opportunity to brighten up the town.

“The project has been planned for several months,” he said.

“By and large the designs came about earlier in the week and they got together on the Wednesday and did all the painting.

“The theme was life in Cuballing, so there was the farm scene that was pretty typical for most of our children and the other was an abstract drawing of an orchid for which we have numerous examples around the shire.

“The murals are a bright picture that will lighten up our skate park reserve.”
