Prams and mothers gathered en masse for the Bridgetown Child Health Commitee’s Perinatal Anxiety and Depression Australia pram walk on Thursday.

Attendees walked from the Bridgetown Library to the Bridgetown Family and Community Centre, where they enjoyed a catered morning tea and massages.

Organiser Michelle Stayt said she was happy with the turnout.

“It’s about raising awareness for anxiety and depression pre and post having babies, looking at what you can do when you are experiencing some challenges and the pathways, who to go and see,” she said.

“Today is about connecting parents to other parents and to service providers like Accordwest and WA Country Health Service.”

Several health professionals took part in the walk, including child health nurses and a representative from the region’s midwifery group practice.

Committee member Elizabeth Guest said one of the first stops for mothers experiencing mental health issues should be the centre’s health nurse.

The event was run with support from Accordwest, Stepping Stones, the Department of Health Mental Health Team, Bridgetown Medical Centre and the Bridgetown Family and Community Centre.
