Bridgetown’s Henri Nouwen House will be able to offer its clients upgraded facilities thanks to a $105,000 refurbishment.

The project has seen the internal layout of the facility changed to allow for more space for group sessions and two counselling rooms with external access.

Chair Judi Fletcher said it was a time of renewal for the organisation.

“We’ve revamped our building, we’ve revamped our program and our manuals,” she said.

“We are still the same old support organisation that was for 30 years now, but our program has been advanced and renewed to bring it into modern times.

“It’s really about value for our clients and making sure they have a really pleasant environment to work in.

“It’s about honouring our clients and giving them the best we can provide for their comfort.”

The renovation was funded with a LotteryWest grant obtained by operations manager Dellys Sice, and ongoing support for the organisation is provided by the Shire of Bridgetown-Greenbushes and the Uniting Church, which allows the organisation to use the building rent free.

“We want to thank Lottery-West, because we’d never be able to do it on our own,” Mrs Sice said.

Mrs Fletcher thanked the shire for its support.

As part of the renovation, one of the building’s rooms was dedicated to organisation founder Elizabeth Walsh, who started the organisation in 1992.
