Former Broome girl Claire van der Boom won a silver Logie at last week’s television awards ceremony.

The rising international star was awarded Most Outstanding Actress award for her role in the ABC’s Sisters of War drama.

Van der Boom plays Sister Berenice Twohill, a New South Wales Roman Catholic nun.

The drama was inspired by the true story of a group of Australian nurses and nuns imprisoned by Japanese military on new Britain island in 1942.

A former Broome resident, Van der Boom left town in 1990 and went on to become an international star.

She starred in the popular Australian TV series Love My Way before appearing in director Nash Edgerton’s The Square, which screened at Sydney Film Festival in June 2008.

Van der Boom is also known for her role in the critically acclaimed mini-series The Pacific.
