A repeat thief has been sentenced to a suspended jail term after continuing to steal and trespass at Kalgoorlie-Boulder businesses which have banned him from entering their stores.

Anton Ross Donaldson-Sinclair, 36, appeared in Kalgoorlie Magistrates Court on Monday where he pleaded guilty to two stealing offences and two trespassing offences in June.

The court was told on June 14 Donaldson-Sinclair entered Kmart on Egan Street but was asked to leave because of a two-year banning notice that was still in place.

He left the store yelling and screaming while knocking items off shelves.

He then entered Wizard Pharmacy at Kalgoorlie Central Shopping Centre despite a two-year banning notice also being in place at that store.

While there, Donaldson-Sinclair collected numerous toiletries and concealed them on his body before leaving without paying.

Then on June 25, Donaldson-Sinclair placed two packets of lamb worth $16 each from Everett Butchers — located at the same shopping centre — in his handbag and left without paying.

Defence lawyer Christjan Corias said his client had a long history of unlawful entry and stealing charges, but would be willing to comply with supervision requirements.

Magistrate Matthew Holgate said Donaldson-Sinclair’s record of stealing had consistently been small amounts that could only be dealt with by way of fines of a community-based order.

However, with the addition of trespassing a jail term was now on the table.

Mr Holgate said Donaldson-Sinclair had been banned from visiting certain stores because of repeated stealing.

“The message as such just has to get louder,” he said.

Mr Holgate sentenced Donaldson-Sinclair to a six months and one day jail term on each of the trespass offences but suspended it for nine months.

He was also fined $500 for the two stealing offences, and was ordered to pay $259.30 in court costs in addition to compensation.
