Kalgoorlie-Boulder experienced its wettest 24-hour period in more than a year courtesy of a storm front on Sunday night.

The airport rain gauge recorded 17.6mm overnight on Sunday, bringing the 24-hour total to 9am Monday to 20.4mm.

It is only the fourth time in the past three years that more than 20mm has been recorded in one day, and the wettest day since 44.6mm fell on November 11, 2018.

The Kalgoorlie gauge had recorded 51mm for the month to 9am Tuesday, making it the wettest month since November 2018.

Rain has also reached some stations in the southern rangelands.

Granite Peak north of Wiluna recorded 33mm and Lorna Glen 5.2mm on Sunday night.

Edjudina Station east of Menzies recorded 21mm, Gindalbie recorded 34mm, and Credo 16mm.

Some rainfall fell for drought-affected south coast farms too. Cascade (4.6mm), Grass Patch (2.4mm) and Salmon Gums (3.6mm) were among the stations to record more than 2mm.

The weather has caused issues for the Prospector train service after the network was hit by a number of lightning strikes and heavy rainfall.

TransWA said this had caused signalling issues across multiple locations since late yesterday afternoon.

When the signals are down, the automatic “traffic light” system trains use to safely traverse the EGR do not work.

Technicians for Arc Infrastructure, which manages the track, have been working to rectify the issues since last night.

There is no estimate yet as to when the problem will be fixed.

Areas around Ravensthorpe could receive up to 20mm over the next five days, but those to the east of the Goldfields and Coolgardie-Esperance highways are unlikely to record more than a few drops for the rest of the month.
