LATEST COVID-19 DEVELOPMENTS:

* The federal government extended the suspension of quarantine-free travel from New Zealand for at least another 72 hours, until 2pm AEDT Sunday when it will be reviewed again.

* Acting Chief Medical Officer Michael Kidd cited two new community cases in NZ of the South African strain of the virus as the reason for the extension.

* NZ health authorities believe all three cases were transmitted in quarantine at the Pullman Hotel in Auckland.

* Dr Kidd revealed that 12 people who were at the Pullman had travelled to Sydney before the "green zone travel" arrangements were suspended, with a smaller number travelling on to other states.

* A Pfizer executive told a Senate inquiry it expects to enter fresh talks with the government in coming weeks about increasing its agreed allocation to Australia of 10 million coronavirus vaccine doses.

* Queensland Premier Annastacia Palaszczuk announced the state's border to Greater Sydney would reopen from Monday, while calling for JobKeeper to be extended for tourism operators.

* Victorian Premier Daniel Andrews said he'd be announcing changes on Friday to free up travel from NSW.

* South Australian Police Commissioner Grant Stevens said the state's border restrictions for travellers from Greater Sydney would ease from Sunday.

* They won't be required to quarantine but must have a coronavirus test on days one, five and 12, and must isolate until receiving a negative result from the day one test.

* Victoria reached 22 days with no new local coronavirus cases.

* NSW recorded its 11th straight day without a locally acquired case.

AUSTRALIAN CORONAVIRUS NUMBERS:

* Seven new virus cases were recorded in Australia on Thursday; three in NSW, three in Victoria and one in Queensland. All were diagnosed in hotel quarantine.

* The national death toll is 909: Victoria 820, NSW 56, Tasmania 13, WA 9, Queensland 6, SA 4, ACT 3. (Two Queensland residents who died in NSW have been included in the official tolls of both states).

GLOBAL CORONAVIRUS NUMBERS:

* Cases: at least 100,852,000

* Deaths: at least 2,173,900

* Recovered: at least 55,745,000.
