Leschenault have missed a chance to secure a finals berth for the 2022 BDCA first grade season after going down to Donnybrook by three wickets at home on Saturday.

The Green Caps went into the match knowing a win would secure them a top-four spot, but they started poorly, losing BDCA opener Steve Denison on the seventh ball of the match.

Skipper Matt Fink (24) tried to rally his side but they found themselves in trouble at 6-65 when they headed off for drinks.

Number-eight Jason Shine (41 off 66 balls) breathed life into the Leschenault innings and got them to a total of 114.

Jacob Templeton struck with the first ball of the Donnybrook innings to give the Green Caps hope and when Brody D’Agostino struck with the last ball of his first over, the home side were on the brink of something special.

Donnybrook skipper Bradman May was joined at the crease by Adam Bilston with the score at 2-2.

The two worked together and put on 49 runs before Shehzad Gondal bowled Bilston to give the home side hope.

Leschenault kept fighting, taking a further four wickets after the dismissal of Bilston but it was not enough as the visitors passed the score with seven wickets down, with May on 61 not out.

Leschenault still remains two points ahead of Donnybrook and face ladder-leaders Eaton on Saturday, while Donnybrook plays Hay Park who sit in second-bottom.

Meanwhile in the Wyllie Cup, Waroona have claimed a bonus-point victory over the Secret Harbour Dockers, with big knocks from Brandon Burt (65) and Matt Thomas (85) helping them post a competitive 8-244 from their 50 overs.

In reply, the Dockers started well and made their way to 0-37 before Waroona took 3-5 to leave them in all sorts of trouble at 3-42.

From there, the home side never got going and in a blink of an eye were bowled out for 72, with Jayden Lorimer taking four wickets.

In the BDCA second grade, Harvey-Benger went down to Eaton by four wickets.

The Harvey side batted first against the Bobtails but were 5-59 early before a gritty 58 from Matthew Chave and 37 from Alex Verrall helped push the visitors to 129 all out after 40 overs.

Zak Italiano struck early for Harvey-Benger but the total was never enough as Eaton passed the score in the 37th over after losing just six wickets.
