With an enviable coastal lifestyle at our fingertips, it should come as no surprise the Mid West is expected to lead demand for new recreational boating facilities outside the metropolitan area over the next 15 years.

According to Department of Transport studies, the number of recreational vessels in WA is expected to rise from about 100,000 currently to 140,700 by 2036, with trailer craft to grow by 36,301 while larger vessels, usually more than 7.5m in length, will increase by 3756.

The Mid West and South West are the boom areas of growth tipped outside of the Perth and Peel regions.

In the Mid West, overall boat ownership is expected to jump 43 per cent by 2036, with demand for facilities anticipated to be from larger vessels and extra moorings required.

Transport Minister Rita Saffioti said: “The eight regional planning studies provide, for the first time, a blueprint for local authorities and the State to meet the growing need for recreational boating facilities.
