Coronavirus crisis: Barnaby Joyce fined for not wearing a mask

The new Deputy Prime Minister has been fined $200 for failing to wear a mask while filling up his car with petrol at a northern NSW service station yesterday.

Barnaby Joyce was dobbed in by a member of the public who called Crime Stoppers about the COVID restrictions infraction at the Armidale service station.

Police reviewed CCTV at the station leading to Mr Joyce’s fine.

Masks are mandatory inside all non-residential venues in NSW, which is in a two-week lock down.

Mr Joyce was among 54 people fined for breaching the public health order.

"Police were alerted to an incident in Armidale, yesterday at a service station where a man in his 50s filled up his motor vehicle then went inside to pay for that," NSW Police Deputy Commissioner Gary Worboys said.

"Police were alerted to that, they took some action and that person was apologetic and cooperative and a infringement notice was issued."

Mr Joyce confirmed the fine on Monday.

“I was going to the airport, I forgot to get fuel for Vikki, fuelled the car up with fuel, went in, 30 seconds later $200 it cost me because I didn’t wear one of these (a mask),” he told Sky News.
