A time for support and remembrance

A remembrance service for families who have experienced the loss of a loved one during the COVID-19 pandemic will be held next weekend at William Barrett and Sons chapel.

The Blennerhassett family was among hundreds of local families this year who faced amplified grief after the loss of Sue Blennerhassett, 56, and they invite people with similar experiences to join them to remember and reflect.

William Barrett and Sons funeral director Adrian Barrett encouraged anyone who had experienced a death, especially those affected by COVID restrictions, to attend.

“This year has been the toughest one I’ve experienced as a funeral director — to see the heartbreak when someone can’t attend a service, whether it’s because of restricted numbers or because they can’t travel,” he said. “Funeral services play a vital role in the grief process so we have to make sure our community is stepping up and making sure people experiencing grief aren’t feeling isolated.”
