An emerging talent based in the Kimberley has been announced as the artist in residence at the Cossack Art Awards 2023.

Alice Boardman – who holds a diploma of art and advanced diploma of art therapy – has been awarded the artist in residence for the town of Cossack.

Sponsored by RioTinto, Ms Boardman is set to undergo a four-week residency following the recognition.

Spanning painting, drawing and photography, Ms Boardman’s recent creations include projects that focus on experimental works – including work with glass.

City of Karratha Deputy Mayor Kelly Nunn said the city was delighted to recognise Boardman as the 2023 Cossack Arts Awards Artist in Residence.

“The Cossack Arts Awards are one of the most significant events in the Western Australian arts and culture calendar and provide a unique platform for local artists to showcase their talents,” Cr Nunn said.

“It is wonderful to see the Cossack Art Awards continue to attract a range of accomplished artists such as Alice.

“I am looking forward to seeing the high calibre submissions entered by artists from across the Pilbara and beyond.” The Cossack Art Awards exhibition is open from July 23 to August 13 2023.
