Teenagers alleged to be thieves

A spate of opportunistic thefts and frauds have come to an end after local police caught the teenagers allegedly involved.

Margaret River police told the Times they were frustrated residents continued not to get the message that many of the alleged stealing incidents could have been avoided if cars and homes were locked.

Instead, chatter about numerous break-ins has dominated social media during the past fortnight, with some victims acknowledging they had not reported the alleged thefts to police.

Station boss Sgt Luke Fowler said two teenagers had been dealt with under the Young Offenders Act for stealing and subsequent fraud offences.

“In one of the incidents, a GoPro and a wallet containing bank cards was stolen from an unlocked car parked near Memorial Park,” Sgt Fowler said.

“The stolen bank card was then used by the juvenile offenders at the Coles Express service station in Margaret River.”

The thefts from vehicles happened around April 19.
