Albany jockey Natasha Faithfull has claimed the $60,000 Carnarvon Cup (2000m), steering Marxian to a blistering victory in the dirt feature race on Saturday.

It was Faithfull’s only winner of the day but her daring front-running ride paid off.

The Graeme Hammarquist-trained Marxian jumped well from barrier seven, and Faithfull allowed her mount to roll forward early on.

Marxian opened up a gap on the field, setting a frantic pace in front, and led by six lengths at the top of the straight before powering clear to win by 8.2 lengths in a remarkable sprint home.
