Promising four-year-old Big Bada Boom has drawn high praise from trainer Roy Rogers and jockey William Pike after the horse notched his third straight victory on Sunday at Mt Barker.

The gelding showed his potential with an impressive victory in the TABtouch Stream Racing Live Handicap (1850m), making it three in a row after winning at Albany in his last two starts.

Big Bada Boom jumped from barrier five, and Pike sat just off the leaders before levelling up at the top of the straight and then racing to the front.

They held all challengers at bay in the final 100m to win by one length on the line over Blue Turns To Grey and Cocky Ed.

Rogers said Pike was very impressed with the horse stepping up to the staying distance for the first time.

“He thinks the horse can go to town and win some nice staying races,” he said.

“We won’t get too carried away with him, but he has excelled and shown plenty of potential.

“He is still raw and maturing, so once the penny drops, the sky is the limit.

“Weight is not a problem for him, he is a monster of a horse.”

Rogers said he would look to take Big Bada Boom to Perth for some staying races in the future.

“We will just go through the classes down here as the season goes on and we won’t get too carried away,” he said.

“We will then probably give him a let-up and there is some nice staying races at Belmont.”

The result was Pike’s fourth winner in the Great Southern, while Rogers took his local tally to 17 wins.
