GMC has unveiled the all-new Hummer EV and, while it may not be destined for Australia as yet, the numbers are truly staggering.

The Hummer badge was renowned for everything excessive before it was retired in 2010: massive in size, with massive engines and massive fuel use.

Yet despite the new dual cab and SUV versions being electric, its specifications are enough to appear worthy of the Hummer name.

GMC says it can pump out up to an otherworldly 735kW and 2033Nm (!) of torque which will send the beast from 0-60mph (0-97km/h) in a physics-defying 3.0 seconds.

With a 200kWh battery onboard, GMC says the Hummer is good for 560km of range and its 350kW high-speed charging system means owners can add 160km in 10 minutes.

To help off-road (and, possibly, in car parks), it has ‘crab mode’ four-wheel-steering allowing it to drive diagonally, plus the ability to raise the suspension by up to 150mm to conquer tricky terrain.

Open-top driving is also an option thanks to its detachable “infinity roof”.

On the tarmac, semi autonomous hands-free driving and lane changing will be available.

GMC hasn’t revealed pricing, but expect it to be steep — and going by the opularity of the old Hummer, expect US celebrities to be all over it once production starts next year.
