Amid a global pandemic, WA artists are helping raise money for the fight against COVID-19, with Royal Perth Hospital and Screen West collaborating for the vital cause.

Speaking to The West Live host Jenna Clarke WA Arts Minister David Templeman promoted a new documentary created through the partnership - Masquerade for Medical Research.

The RPH Research Foundation collaborated with fashion illustrator Jamie Goode to raise money for medical research.

Each mask Goode created correlates with a specific donation amount, starting from just $5.

A documentary on the collaboration will be shown at 2pm and 3pm on WA Day in Yagan Square.

WA Day is usually an opportunity for West Australians to embrace their local industries including the arts, according to Mr Templeman.

He said the artistic community had been hit hard and would continue to be until restrictions were eased further, highlighting positive projects like Masquerade for Medical Research as a way forward.

“[It’s] a good example of where the arts bends beautifully into other genres. I think we again can be very proud of those members of our community,” he said.

Each year on WA Day, local artist are usually highlighted through the SOTA festival.

The festival has been forced to go online this year but that’s not stopping indie WA poppers San Cisco who will share their new On the Line EP to fans hungry for new music.

One of those significantly impacted, the global pandemic has made live music nearly impossible, frustrating the Fremantle three-piece, according to guitarist and lead vocalist Jordi Davieson.
